Background Information
Lyn & Debbie Swarthout have owned and trained English Springer Spaniels since 1983 for their own hunting use. Both Lyn & Debbie were born and have lived in Northern Minnesota their entire lives. Over the years, Lyn has handled & placed dogs in A.K.C. field trials and NMESSC interclub fun trials.
Lyn’s wife, Debbie, is a lot of help with our dogs. The past several years due to my health issues Debbie does more work than ever. Without her good help we couldn’t continue. Also, she is in charge of our puppies. So feel free to direct your questions to her when you call.
Breeding Philosophy
Occasionally, we will have a litter of puppies. We breed a dog when we feel they have just the right traits to produce “Top-Quality” family dogs, hunting dogs, and/or Field Trial Prospects.
We always want to breed dogs who show good social skills (A.K.A. “Temperament”). The dogs we breed are great family dogs and have not shown any signs of aggression. It doesn’t matter how well a dog can hunt, if you can’t trust his or hers personality than the dog is not worth breeding.
When we do choose to breed a dog they have proven they can mark retrieves, retrieve to hand, quarter in the field, retrieve in the water, and possess a good scenting nose. We believe it’s very important that we breed dogs that are biddable and able to work co-operatively with us in the field in order to give us our best hunt ever.
